home-grown product of NVSL, Michelle learned how to
swim "late" at the ripe old age of 10. Within 2 years
she was swimming for local PVS teams, and within 4 years she found
herself coached by none other than Greg York at her first Zone
Championship - just a stepping stone on the beautiful swimming path
she forged for herself (with the help of some of the greatest
coaches EVER!)
Despite
enjoying National Level status, All-Star Champion medals and
multiple CAA wins at James Madison University, Michelle remains
sentimental when discussing developmental swimming: "Swimming
is a sport that builds more than strong bodies. It teaches
discipline, molds character, fosters responsibility, and builds
friendships that can last a lifetime."
Michelle
stresses the importance of learning the fundamentals early and
correctly. The more technically sound your stroke, the easier
it is to get across the pool. And who doesn’t want to
get across the pool faster?!? Efficiency not only
decreases your times, it also decreases your risk of
injury.
Currently on sabbatical from teaching to raise her 3
daughters, perfect her culinary skills and train for
Olympic Distance triathlons, Michelle joined the YORK team to help
foster enthusiasm and a love of swimming in the children she
coaches.

Biography:
My entire childhood was spent swimming with the Oakton Otters
and York Swim Club. After graduating from Madison High School in
2003, I followed a long line of family members to the University of
Texas. Every summer, however, I returned to be the head coach of
the Oakton Otters. My experience working with children in the pool
inspired me to join the Teach For America program to teach
underprivileged students in a low income area. After earning my
degree from Texas, I moved to Glendale, Arizona, and taught middle
school for two years, while earning a Master's Degree in Secondary
Education. At the end of my program, I decided to move back to the
Northern Virginia area to pursue my passion in politics in
government and recently began working for Representative Tom
Perriello.

Greg is on the Potomac Valley Board of Directors he has served on
the board since 1998 and is currently the Age Group Chair he has
also served as the Coach’s Representative and the Strategic
Planning Chair.
He is an ASCA level 5 coach.
He has served as the Director and Coach of Potomac Valley 8 and
under Mini Camp 4 times.
